Traveling solo as a woman is a uniquely empowering experience. It’s about the freedom to set your own pace, immerse yourself in new cultures, and uncover parts of yourself you never knew existed. But let’s keep it real—traveling alone as a woman can also come with its share of challenges. Whether it’s finding safe accommodations, navigating unfamiliar destinations, convincing your family you won’t be kidnapped, or simply battling loneliness, the road can sometimes feel daunting.
That’s why I’m excited to announce the Solo Yolo Travel Club (SYTC), launching in March 2025! This platform is designed to support solo female travelers at every step of their journey. With a mix of resources, community, motivation and guidance, SYTC aims to make solo travel not just accessible but transformative for women everywhere.
Founder Note: The Story Behind SYTC
The idea for Solo Yolo Travel Club comes straight from my own journey—filled with twists, turns, and lessons learned. By the time I was 19 years old, I had already traveled solo to over 11 states in America. I was a free spirit, fueled by a love of adventure and a desire to explore with a side of rebellion. But unfortunately those two experiences left a lasting impact on me: being stranded for a month in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and later in Miami, FL. Both incidents happened, in the 90s, a time before cell phones or GPS, and long before solo female travel was normalized. To this day, my parents still don’t know I was a frequent Greyhound bus solo traveler. Being stranded in two unfamiliar places within a year was traumatic. They shook my confidence, and for years, they became the barriers that held me back. By the time I was 22, I was a mother, navigating a committed toxic relationship with someone who hadn’t traveled much, and was running a brick-and-mortar business for over a decade. Fear, lack of flexibility, financial constraints, and having no support system stifled my ability to travel.
Fast forward 24 years, on my 43rd birthday, I decided to take back control of my narrative. I left my toxic relationship, my business was secure and my children were self- sufficient young adults. I booked a unplanned, 24-hour solo trip to Las Vegas, and it was life-changing. It reminded me of the joy and liberation I had once felt as a young traveler. For the past five years, I’ve rekindled my love for solo travel, exploring domestic destinations and reclaiming a part of myself I thought I’d lost forever.
But in full transparency, I still haven’t taken a solo trip internationally. That’s a journey I’m building toward, and it’s another reason why I created SYTC—to not only help others but also to help my damn self. I want to walk this path alongside you, as part of the same community.
Solo Yolo Travel Club was born out of a deep desire to make solo travel more accessible, especially for women who might feel hesitant or unsure. I’ve been there—held back by fear, financial constraints, and life’s responsibilities. I know how easy it is to push those dreams aside. But I also know the incredible transformation that happens when you take that leap.
SYTC isn’t about being an expert on all things travel. It’s about creating a supportive environment where women can overcome obstacles, share experiences, and build confidence. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or planning your first solo trip, SYTC is here to guide and inspire you.
